I had to patch a tire tube a few years ago and I did not have any tire tools. I shopped prices and did not want to pay that exorbitant amount of money for a one-time use, so I used long, heavy-duty screwdrivers and a tire iron. Getting the tire back on was a lot harder than getting it off, but I got the job done by the hardest. That was my first time and I figured it out as I went. I made a Schrader Valve tool from a new, long air insert for cars (like what you have to pull to get a first-time tube in). The Schrader tool (just the valve key) screws onto the air insert threads. That would have solved your problem because it doesn't have the two T tools on the sides and the whole thing is thin, except the sealing insert, and that can be cut off, but it makes a good stopper for this job. I have one like yours as well. I had the wheel off and on the ground, so I was able to kneel on the inserted side so it could suck under to the center of the rim to assist in getting last part under the rim. Using the vice grips was brilliant. Well done, Joe! 👍👍 It's not easy, even with a tire tool.
